TIP Frequently Asked Questions

1. My child is in ninth grade now; does this preclude him/her from participating in the TIP program?

Students can qualify at any time while they are in grades 4-12.

2. If my student was accepted into Duke TIP and/or Johns Hopkins CTY, will Baylor accept that as well? Will they still need to test?

Students who were previously identified through other national talent search program such as Duke TIP, CTY, or CTD and were eligible to take their courses will be automatically admitted to Baylor TIP by filling out this form and submitting an application fee of $100.  For more information, visit our Admissions page.

3. Do I need to submit hard copies of the qualifying paperwork for my child/student?

No. When individual students register to take one or more of the Baylor TIP assessments, parents will indicate how the student qualifies (i.e., top 25% on a standardized test, identified as gifted and talented, or educator/parent recommendation). Parents will provide qualification information on the registration form, but copies of qualifying paperwork do not need to be submitted at this time.

4. When will the student/parent receive testing scores?

The testing window is open each year from September 1 through June 30. However, to be considered for our 7th grade Spring Recognition Ceremony, students must test by February 28. Baylor TIP Scholars will be notified of their ranking by the end of March each year.

5. Will you provide scholarships for out of town or traveling students for Bayor TIP Assessments and programming at Baylor?

Needs-based scholarships will be available for Baylor TIP programs. Find out more information here.

6. How do I find out if my district is arranging for IAR TIP testing in-house?

Contact your district Advanced Academics coordinator or GT coordinator to ask if they are partnering with Baylor TIP to offer the TIP testing on site. They can help you get registered through the district. If not, you can sign up as an individual through this website.

7. How can I get someone from Baylor TIP to come speak to my district or organization?

Email us at Baylortip@baylor.edu and we will reach out to schedule a conversation to discuss services we provide.

8. Can homeschooled students participate in TIP?

Yes. We welcome homeschool students and we welcome partnerships with homeschool groups and associations. We love to be an extension option for your homeschool curriculum. Reach out to us for more information at BaylorTIP@baylor.edu.

9. Do kids have to be in TIP to participate in Super Saturdays?

No. Super Saturdays are open to any student.
