Clubs and Societies
Clubs and Societies Grades 8-12
Eighth through twelfth graders looking to connect over shared interests may join one of our emerging clubs and societies. These groups will meet multiple times over the course of a semester with a TIP mentor as guide to share common interests and explore skills within those interests more in depth. Meeting times and pursuits will be determined together as a group, and may be in person, although most will likely be online to facilitate access for all.

Looking to improve as a poet, a storyteller, a columnist, or a scriptwriter? Craving new writing prompts or genuine feedback? Join the Baylor TIP writing community! Under the guidance of our writing coach, TIPsters will engage in monthly writing prompts and lessons to help them grow as writers. They will also receive support in preparing submissions for publications and awards.
Club members should plan to attend at least 75% of our monthly virtual meetings per semester (Sept.-Dec.). Meeting dates will be scheduled based on a majority of the club members’ availability. Students must apply to become members of this society, and the number of students accepted to this society will be kept small to allow for maximum support and feedback. Additionally, students can schedule 1 15-minute 1:1 session per semester with the coach to get additional feedback on samples or discuss submissions.

Ward is a two-time winner of the National Book Award for Fiction, which is widely considered the most prestigious annual literary award in the U.S. In 2016, the American Academy of Arts and Letters selected Ward for the Strauss Living Award, and she received the prestigious MacArthur Fellows “Genius Grant” from the John D. and Catherine T. Baylor TIP Student Advisory Council

Application required: yes
Application fee: $25
Last year, we established our first society for students in grades 8-12: Baylor TIP's Student Advisory Council. A small number of students were invited to be our founding members, and we couldn't be more grateful to them for the valuable input and ideas they provided for the future development of Baylor TIP! They recommended courses, reviewed our website and our summer catalogue, designed t-shirts, and served as ambassadors during our 7th-Grade Recognition Ceremony and our summer programs. This year, we are excited to open membership to all TIP students in grades 8-12 who have participated in our programming and are interested in further developing their leadership skills. Interested students should submit the application form, along with a $25 application fee, by August 25 at midnight. (Students can request a fee waiver for financial reasons by emailing baylortip@baylor.edu.) We will review all of the applications and notify all applicants of the admission decision on August 28. At that time, all of the members will be polled to help us determine our first virtual meeting date. We do our best to work around our members' schedules. Meetings are held virtually and via email, and all in-person opportunities are optional. There is no fee to join once admitted, although some optional activities may include a small fee to help us cover the costs.
